In March 2021, Brazil's National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) issued Ordinance No. 123, approving the Technical Regulation for Costume Jewelry and Jewelry. In line with international standards, the ordinance limits the cadmium content in costume jewelry and jewelry to 0.01% by weight, given the metal's toxicity to human health and the environment.
Despite its notoriety, cadmium had long been a key component in gold plating semi-jewelry, giving pieces strength and quality. Faced with the new regulations, however, the jewelry industry had to find quality substitutes for cadmium.
In early 2023, FC Joias began a new era in gold plating by adopting an innovative cadmium-free technology imported directly from Germany. This groundbreaking formula not only meets the standards set by Ordinance No. 123 but also outperforms the traditional cadmium-based plating process.
